EVENT CASE STUDY: Vince Gill's Mini Vinny golf tournament

Representing The Tennessean newspaper at the time, thinkMEDIA co-created, co-organized and co-produced the Mini Vinny Golf Tournament, a youth-oriented golf outing borrowed from Vince Gill's then-young "Vinny" golf weekend.

As an inaugural event, the tournament had three corporate agendas: 1) promote a positive public image for The Tennessean newspaper throughout the Middle Tennessee circulation area; 2) introduce a number of youth-oriented products to children and establish early brand identity and loyalty; 3) youth participants to a positive activities and role models.

The event, inspired by singer Vince Gill's annual Pro/Celebrity invitational, featured a 9-hole golf scramble with putting, chipping and driving clinics. Nike Tour Pros and entertainers such as Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Dean Dillon joined former Chicago Bull's star Charles Davis, Detroit Lion's punter Jim Arnold and others participated in the day-long event.

This represented the first of numerous thinkMEDIA events. Shared organizational and logistical duties included celebrity/player solicitation and confirmations; management of 50 event volunteers; on-site planning; event management; event-day execution; plus marketing and promotional functions. The successful event is now in its ninth year.
